Local Residents Make A Big Impact
Batley residents came out in force on Saturday as part of the Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring campaign.
Organised by local campaign group Batley Against Tipping, the “BatleyBAT’s Batley Clean Up” event undertook a litter pick around the town hall area and surrounding car parks.
Paul Young, who organised the event, said “It was great to see such a great turnout on the day. We had a wide age range of people, representing the different communities in Batley. We had young kids, local Muslim group MKA Spen Valley as well as a number of older volunteers who all wanted to make a difference.”
The group filled an impressive 25 bin bags worth of rubbish despite the rain.
Local campaigner and Batley Poet Mohamed Saloo, who attended the event, went further “it’s a terrific initiative that is sadly needed. When you take a walk around you find these litter hotspots that are an eyesore to us all. As its clears you feel like you’re making a real difference. It was brilliant to join new friends for a really worthwhile morning.”
